Leasing and operating rental for businesses

Services and guides

Compare use of the asset, funding and contract terms

Leasing and operating rental can provide access to machinery, vehicles, equipment and other business assets. Suitability depends on intended use, duration, included services and contractual conditions.

Define the requirement

We review the asset’s expected use, maintenance needs and economic life. Initial payments, periodic instalments, any purchase option and end-of-contract conditions affect the comparison. Rental and finance leases should not be treated as interchangeable products.

Compare cash flows and alternatives

The alternative may be a purchase funded with the company’s own resources or a loan. Compare all payments, fees, services, insurance and residual or redemption conditions on a consistent basis. Tax and accounting treatment need to be assessed for the company and contract concerned.

Connect the decision with the business plan

The asset’s contribution to operations and the company’s wider cash requirements should be reflected in the business plan. An affordable instalment does not by itself establish that an investment is worthwhile.

We support the financial assessment, preparation of information and comparison of proposals within an agreed assignment. See business investment funding, or describe the asset, cost and intended use to begin a discussion.
